New Developments in the Autism Spectrum Disorders
The workshop will focus on the current descriptors of Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), their origin and current accepted treatment approaches. Mental health professionals will have the opportunity to identify common factors in the various presentations of ASD and understand how the disorders impact members of the family of individuals with ASD.
Learning Objectives:
1. To introduce mental health professionals to current conceptualizations on Autism Spectrum Disorders.
2. To update mental health professionals on current empirical evidence on the etiology of Autism Spectrum Disorders.
3. To review empirically-based treatment approaches to Autism Spectrum Disorders.
Presenter—Richard C. Ney, Ph.D.
Dr. Richard Ney is a Professor in the Department of Behavioral Medicine and the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology Program of Midwestern University. He has been in Clinical Practice since 1981 serving the psychological needs of adults and children in the western suburbs. He is graduate of Loyola University of Chicago with a PhD in Cognitive Psychology. He also completed a two year postdoctoral program at the University of Health Sciences/ Chicago Medical School in psychotherapy and counseling. Dr. Ney serves all ages but has a specialization in families of and children with special needs.
