Predoctoral Internship Opportunity
The deadline for applications is December 1, 2010, with an anticipated start date of July 5 & August 2, 2011. The stipend is currently $14,000/year--we hope to increase this in the coming years. In addition to the paid vacation and holiday time, our interns earn paid comp time off as well. This is a one year training program! Our Interns average 2,300 hours per year. Interns receive a certificate of completion indicating both the number of hours completed and successful completion of clinical training expereinces. Applicant Requirements
The ideal candidate must have experience working with the chronically mentally ill and open to providing supervision to practicum students. Interns must be clinically astute, able to work independently, and multi-task. Master's Degree preferred. ABS agrees to abide by the APPIC policy that no person at this training facility will solicit, accept or use any ranking-related information from any intern applicant. Potential candidates should submit Cover Letter, CV, AAPI forms, 3 letters of recommendation (not including your training director letter) and a writing sample no sooner than October 21, 2010. We DO NOT have an in-house application form.
Associates in Behavioral Science (ABS)
ABS is an interdisciplinary practice comprised of board certified psychiatrists, licensed clinical psychologists, licensed clinical social workers and professional counselors, registered nurses, and addictions counselors that provide all levels of inpatient and outpatient treatment of psychiatric disorders and substance abuse problems.
Program Description
The Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) at Associates in Behavioral Science is designed to treat individuals who suffer from severe psychiatric disorders. The program offers a less restrictive atmosphere for individuals with a history of inpatient psychiatric care, while still allowing those clients to receive the intensive and comprehensive treatment that this integral to their mental health. The program focuses on the stabilization and amelioration of acute symptoms that do not require immediate hospitalization.
The IOP strives to improve the social/interpersonal skills of our clients while helping them to develop stronger coping skills to function within the environment in which they live. The clients are educated on all aspects of their illness including their disorder symptoms, treatment, and medications.
The ultimate goal of the Associates in Behavioral Science Intensive Outpatient Program is to improve the client's quality of life through an increase in their stability and an understanding of their illness.
A psychologist, who is on-site daily and is closely involved in the daily delivery of care, supervises the IOP. The staff includes psychiatrists and psychologists, mental health and substance abuse counselors.
The Intensive Outpatient Program takes place on a daily basis, Monday through Friday, for four hours each day. Patients attend several groups each day including group psychotherapy, psychoeducational groups, and individual therapy.
Training Opportunities
Interns will have the opportunity to work with chronically mentally ill adults from primarily urban, low income, ethnic minority populations. Treatment modalities include diagnostic testing, individual and group therapy, as well as long-term psychotherapy. Community and crisis intervention experience will be gained through consultations performed in a hospital emergency room. Interns also staff and coordinate outpatient psychiatry appointments with our staff psychiatrist. Additional experiences will include psychiatry consults on medical units, staff supervision and clinical administration.

Our training program offers you a wonderful experience in a fast-paced private practice setting. We accept 3 MA Students and 7 PsyD students (mix of advanced and therapy).

One 5-hour shift/week at Weiss Memorial Hospital ER as a crisis worker who assesses all psychiatric patients coming into the ER
