What is psychological testing?

Psychological testing refers to using different types of standardized tests and psychological assessments to diagnose various mental health conditions.

Standardized tests are the same no matter who takes them. They're proven to be a valid and reliable test that produces unbiased scoring. Your score on a standardized test accurately reflects your performance and abilities compared to many others who took the same test.

Psychological assessments include many different tests, including:

Questionnaires may be completed by parents, teachers, caregivers, family members, and other professionals who can answer questions about behavioral, emotional, and learning issues.

Your therapist uses the results from all your tests and assessments to make an accurate diagnosis. They also create a profile of each patient’s unique strengths and weaknesses. 

Then they combine all the information they have to identify the mental health services you or your child may need and make treatment recommendations.
