Dr. DeJoseph is a licensed clinical psychologist who is President of Associates in Behavioral Science. He is a graduate of the Illinois School of Professional Psychology, and received his Doctor of Psychology degree in 1984. He began his 49 year career in behavioral health at the Psychiatric Evaluation Unit of Yale New Haven Hospital in 1976, in an inpatient diagnostic program for acute psychiatric illness. His internship at Chicago Read Mental Health Center, Illinois’ largest state operated inpatient mental health center at the time, afforded him an intensive introduction to his long-evolved experience and expertise in the treatment of persons with chronic and persistent, severe mental illness. He has extensive experience with both adult and adolescent psychiatric populations. In addition to nearly five decades of clinical experience, Dr. DeJoseph has also held many executive appointments during his career as well; having formerly been CEO of Genesis Health Systems of Lincolnwood Illinois, President and CEO of University Hospital in Chicago and Vice President of Hospital Group of Illinois, where he developed facilities for all levels of behavioral health treatment in Illinois and neighboring states. Dr. DeJoseph has also developed, administered, managed or clinically directed 13 hospital departments/divisions and programs in psychiatry and chemical dependence in the Chicago and suburban areas since 1982. He has been an adjunct faculty member, teaching assessment at the Illinois School of Professional Psychology, the institution from which he graduated, Adler University teaching courses in leadership, has taught psychology at the high school and college levels as well as being a guest lecturer and speaker at many institutions such as The Northwestern University Feinberg and University of Chicago Pritzker Schools of Medicine. He has held appointments as President and Vice President of several hospital Professional and Allied Health Staffs and has been a member of the Committee on Healthcare Policy at the Chicago Chamber of Commerce and the Greater Chicago planning Council for Mental Health of the Department of Human Services; State of Illinois where he served with top state officials in mental health. He was additionally a member of the Mental Health Task Force of the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board, focusing on developing policy and training for police and sheriff’s departments across Illinois to be better prepared to effectively, safely and compassionately handle psychiatric patients. He has performed thousands of pre-employment psychological examinations for law enforcement, for several police departments for the past 16 years, and handled crisis referrals of officers as well as providing Fitness for Duty Evaluations. He also performed assessments and treatment to inmates at both the adult and adolescent Will County Jails. He was part of a group at Martha Washington Hospital that pioneered the first specialized treatment programs in Chicago for cocaine addiction in 1982; he began several innovative outpatient programs for chemical dependence in the early 80s, and originated the first specialized inpatient programs for dual diagnosis in Chicago. He also held the position of Chief of Assessment and Detoxification Services at that organization. He has been called upon as a local expert in chemical dependence by such notable organizations as the Betty Ford Center and Fair Oaks Hospital. His organization has managed psychiatric, detoxification units, partial hospitalization programs, and provided consultation in regulatory survey readiness to healthcare organizations and Dr. DeJoseph has consulted to the administration of many hospitals regarding behavioral healthcare. Dr. DeJoseph has also trained and consulted to many healthcare organizations in customer service in healthcare. He was Director of Psychological Services, and Director of Training at Riveredge Hospital in one of the larger programs for training psychology Externs and Interns. He was also Supervisory Psychologist at Will County Health Department, training psychology practicum students and doctoral interns. Dr. DeJoseph’s practice, Associates in Behavioral Science was founded in 1989, and operated a large and extensive doctoral training program for interns and practicum students in psychology, training over 200 individuals, as well as providing free or negligible cost behavioral health treatment of poor and indigent patients with psychiatric and psychological disorders. For the past 40 years, in addition to clinical practice, Dr. DeJoseph's career has also focused upon management, administration and leadership of behavioral health treatment systems within healthcare organizations, and he has both personally led these efforts or guided hospital leaders in developing and managing their behavioral health services. Dr. DeJoseph’s practice and career has also focused upon psychiatric consultation and psychological assessment and has provided psychiatric consultation to the medical services in several Chicago Hospitals and he performed 700-900 medical floor psychiatric consultations per year. During the decade of the 80’s, Dr. DeJoseph also evaluated approximately 8,500 psychiatric and addiction cases in an inner-city emergency room. For three years he had been an appointed board member and elected President of the Berwyn 708 Community Mental Health Board, a township organization that funds community mental health service organizations. His most recent pursuit began in December of 2014 when he was appointed to serve as Chief Executive Officer of Chicago Behavioral Hospital, a 146-bed psychiatric hospital in Des Plaines Illinois and in 2018 was named Group CEO for US HealthVest, having responsibility to oversee Chicago Behavioral, Lake Behavioral and Silver Oaks Behavioral Hospitals in Illinois.
